The ATC-68 (FEMA P-420) report, Engineering Guideline for Incremental Seismic Rehabilitation, was funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and developed under the ATC-68 project. (Published 2009, 98 pages)

ABSTRACT: Since 2003, FEMA has published a series of occupancy-specific manuals for building owners that presents incremental strengthening of buildings in discrete stages as a way of managing costs and minimizing disruption associated with seismic rehabilitation projects. The FEMA P-420 report is a companion guide to this series of occupancy manuals. It explains the concept of incremental seismic rehabilitation as a strategy, discusses owner maintenance, capital improvement and decision-making processes as a basis for communicating with decision-makers on seismic rehabilitation opportunities, summarizes available engineering resource documents, and outlines the overall engineering process for incremental seismic rehabilitation of buildings.
