Task Order 19 (ATC-92 Project), Comparison of U.S. and Chilean Building Code Requirements and Seismic Design Practice 1985–2010. This report presents a comparison of seismic design criteria and practices embodied in U.S. and Chilean building codes in the period immediately preceding the 2010 Maule earthquake. It is intended to provide background information for studies funded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and others as part of a series of investigations into the performance of buildings and other structures affected by the February 27, 2010, earthquake. Specifically, this report is intended to:

  • Document building code requirements and design and construction practices in effect in Chile during the period 1985–2010.

  • Compare operative codes and seismic design practices in Chile and the United States, and document observed differences

This task has been completed and produced the NIST GCR 12-917-18 report which may be ordered here in hard (printed) copy format.
